John J. Matheny, Jr., 77, of Pine Bluff Community, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Clarksburg, August 13, 1943, a son of the late John Julian Matheny, Sr. and the late Helen Mae Martin Matheny. On December 7, 1965, he married Patty Lou Workman Matheny who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jim Matheny and his wife Atha, Lost Creek, Bobby Matheny and his wife Kathy, Worthington, Brent Matheny, Uniontown, PA; 11 grandchildren, Derrick Matheny and his fiancé Kaitlyn Jones, Dustin Matheny and his wife Morgan, Amber Matheny and her companion Nick Zupper, Harold “J.R.” Jones, Heather Gaskins, Jasmine Gaskins, Brittany Matheny, Alyssa Matheny, Tyler Troutman, Kaitlyn Matheny, and Miles Matheny; five great-grandchildren, Ava Nicole Zupper, Rylee and Raylee Bogo, and Atlas and Apollo Jones; one brother, Patrick Lee Matheny; one sister-in-law, Diane Lee Matheny; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Paul Matheny and one sister-in-law Karen “Sue” Matheny.
John was a Vietnam Veteran having served as a Tank Commander in the United States Army. He was a truck driver who was self-employed with Matheny Trucking for many years. He also drove for Lang Brothers Trucking and Salerno Brothers Trucking. In his most recent years before his retirement, he started John’s Hot Shot Trucking which was his passion. John enjoyed going to car shows and hunting. He was a hard worker and will be missed by his family.
The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 2-8pm, Wednesday where funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday with Pastor Buzzy Holbert officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Bluff Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army and the Harrison County Honor Guard.
