It was a difficult task to bring our son, Duane Smith, down from his bedroom yesterday and sit him down and tell him that The Lord had taken James home. Not a week had gone by that Duane hadn't talked about Jim over the years we have been in Charlotte.
Jim had gone out of his way a number of times to befriend Duane through may of his difficult times back in the day.
But that would be one way to define Jim. He was very friendly and wasn't afraid to be a close friend. Jim loved the Lord and loved to sing praises to Him in song. Knowing Jim sang from his heart, I can only imagine he has been invited to sing in the Heavenly Choir.
Duane always called him his "buddy". Heartfelt condolences to his lovely wife, Barbara and his children and their families and his grandchildren and siblings.
Although many of us are grieving down here, we know James is in a better place. But as Duane would say, "Jim you will be missed down here, Ole Buddy"
Love and prayers. Gary and Anna Smith
