James A. “Pee Wee” Patterson, III, 75, of the Swisher Hill Community, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at WVU Hospitals Ruby Memorial in Morgantown. He was born in Huntington on June 20, 1945, a son of the late James A. Patterson, II and the late Helen Williams.
On March 30, 1974, he married Loretta F. Taylor Patterson, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters—Starla Renee Patterson and Tara Lynn Kinney; a son—James Allen Patterson, IV; three grandchildren—Chelsea Renee Efaw, Alyssa Joe Efaw, and Nathaniel Patterson; his sister—Nancy Lee Houser; several nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Hank.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two siblings, Rex Patterson and Barbara Bailey.
James was a coal miner, having retired from Loveridge Mine with more than 38 years’ service. He was a general insider, primarily a roof bolter and rock duster. He never knew a stranger and never forgot a face. James always had a joke and spent a lot of time in his “grocery store.” He enjoyed shooting pool with his daughter and was proud of his rock garden and flower beds that he worked on after his retirement. He was a wonderful husband and father.
The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 1-4pm, Friday, January 8. Cremation will follow the visitation. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.perinefunerals.com. The Perine Funeral Home is honored to serve the Patterson family.
