Clara Lee Akers, 96, of Shinnston, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 14, 2020 at her home with all her family by her side. Clara Lee was born in Kayford, WV, April 16th of 1924, the daughter of the late Harry Curry and Louie Burr Cassell. She was the wife of the late James Pascal Akers, whom she married on December 2, 1938.

She will be remembered by her son, James “Butch” Akers, and his wife Sandra of Shinnston; her daughter, Ellen Jane Parks of Fairmont; her daughter, Sherry Lee Strait and her husband Robert of Shinnston; her daughter, Susan Russell of Port St. Lucie, FL; her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Akers of Shinnston; her siblings, Billy Curry of Indianapolis, IN, Janet Howard of Charleston, WV, and Johnny Curry of Georgia.
She will also be remembered by her 12 grandchildren; Randy Akers and his wife Darlene, Pam Akers, Denise Akers Harbert, Darla Martin, James “Jimbo” Akers and his wife Jennifer, Sheryl Bland and her husband Lester, Tracie Gibbs and her husband Matthew, Lee Ann Vincent and her husband Josh, Lori Strait, Rob Strait, Beth Nonato and her husband James, and Amanda Russell and her husband Mike Lisov; 23 great-grandchildren; Ernie Martin and his wife Amanda, Dusti Akers, Mariah Akers, Bryan Gregory and his husband Luke Blankenship, Zachary McElwayne and his partner Craig Jackson, MaKayla McElwayne, Dawson Bland, Jadyn Bland, Shayla Swiger and her husband Austin, Shanna Akers and her fiancé Casey Conner, Kristen Myers and her husband Maverick, Maverick Altovilla and his fiancé Brittany Stover, Marissa Altovilla, Victoria Harbert, Christopher Harbert, Johnna Akers Nestor and her husband Derek, David Akers, Kylee Ann Linger, Keaton Linger, Madelyn Strait and her fiancé Mike Strietbeck, Abigail Strait, Lillian Strait, and Tiara Strait; her 14 great-great grandchildren, Skylar Martin, Ashley Martin, Audrey Akers, Madison Akers, CaSaun Akers, CamRyn Akers, Ca’Von Akers, Ellie Altovilla, Emma Altovilla, Kayden Thompson, Brody Swiger, Titan Myers, Madison Akers, and Fallynn Gibbs.
Clara Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter, Linda Lee Akers, her son, Randall Akers, her sisters, Jean Looman and Cleo Canterbury, her son-in-law, Barry Parks, her great-grandson, Dustin Akers and his infant daughter, Aubrey Weidow, her infany great-great-grandson, Eric Hunter Lane, and her loving husband of 69 years, James Pascal Akers.
Clara Lee was a homemaker, who dedicated her time to her family and the Lord. She was a faithful member of Trinity Assembly of God in Fairmont. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, and being a wonderful “Nana” to all. Her family would like to thank the staff of St. Barbara’s Nursing home in Monongah for their continuous love and car for Clara Lee in her final days.
The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, from 3-8pm, Monday where funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, August 18th with Pastor Skip Vincent officiating.
